Who are Compass Learning?
Compass Learning is a managed education service, that provides Alternative Provision, providing part-time, interim packages of support when students need it the most. We can support Local Authorities to meet their Section 19 duty, by providing bespoke packages, offering a blend between academic tuition and mentoring, either online or in person. Our provision is built on the foundation of the DfE Voluntary Standards for Alternative Provision, with which we are fully compliant.
Inclusion and re-integration are central to our offer; our bespoke programmes are designed to build toward reintegration with education, whether that be back into mainstream provision, further education and training, or a suitable alternative.
What sets us apart from traditional tuition?
As a managed service, led by experienced educational leaders, every placement is overseen by a programme manager, who is an experienced QTS teacher. We use all information we have about the young person, including EHCP targets and outcomes, and an initial meeting with the commissioner, young person and parent/carer, to design the whole programme around the young person's needs, interests, and desired outcomes.
Unlike traditional tuition services, our support does not begin and end with the delivery of a session. We manage the whole programme around the young person, taking responsibility for engagement, coordination and ongoing review.
We attend all relevant professionals meetings, maintain open communication and work as a trusted partner to the local authority, families and other professionals. As the young person’s needs develop, we adapt individual sessions and the wider package to ensure the provision remains responsive and purposeful.
However complex a learner’s needs may be, we remain committed to finding the right relational approach: building trust, removing barriers and supporting meaningful re-engagement with learning.

Our Services
Bespoke Packages
Every Compass programme is designed around the individual learner. We use academic and personal assessments, information from the child, families and professionals, and any SEND documents to create an Individual Learning and Development Plan (ILDP). This informs a carefully structured six-week programme with clear outcomes, appropriate support and regular reviews.
Tuition
We provide personalised tuition across a range of subjects and key stages. Sessions are delivered by carefully selected tutors and adapted to each learner’s starting point, needs, interests and intended outcomes. Tuition can take place 1:1 at home, in school, within an agreed community setting or online.
We also offer online small group tuition, at a reduced rate. Groups do not exceed 6 young people, to ensure the tutor can give enough support to each individual.
Our centralised curriculum means that we can be sure of content quality, and we regularly QA our tutors delivery to ensure the highest of standards.
We currently offer tuition from KS2 to KS4, in English, Maths, Science & PSHE.
Mentoring
Our mentoring programmes help young people overcome barriers to education, strengthen their confidence and develop the skills needed to move forward. Support may focus on emotional regulation, routines, relationships, independence and readiness to learn. Personalised EBSNA programmes can also support a gradual, purposeful reintegration into education.
Post-16, Accredited Qualifications & Exam Entry
We support post-16 learners to work towards recognised qualifications, including Functional Skills, Arts Award & Personal Development Units. Programmes are matched to each learner’s starting point and future aspirations, creating meaningful pathways into further education, training or employment.
We can also work together with local exam centres to arrange for students to sit their exams
