The right support, at the right time, to help every young person move forward.
Our Approach
At Compass, we build every programme around the individual student. We begin with a combination of academic diagnostic assessment and personal needs assessment to understand the young person’s starting point, identify barriers to learning and establish clear priorities for support.
From this, we create an Individual Learning and Development Plan (ILDP), which takes account of the student’s academic needs, special educational needs, strengths, interests, personal development priorities, EHCP targets and agreed outcomes.
Our Programme Leads then use the ILDP to design a bespoke six-week programme, bringing together the right balance of academic tuition, mentoring and wider personal development. Rather than fitting students into a standard package, the programme is shaped around what that individual young person needs to make progress.
Where a student is experiencing Emotionally Based School Non-Attendance (EBSNA), we build a personalised EBSNA programme into the mentoring offer. This may include work around emotional regulation, confidence, routines, relationships with education, travel readiness and gradual exposure to learning environments. The aim is to reduce barriers over time and support a purposeful, carefully planned reintegration into education, at a pace that is realistic and appropriate for the individual.
At the end of each six-week cycle, we review progress against the ILDP, evaluate what is working and identify any new or emerging needs. The ILDP is then updated and used to shape the next six-week programme, ensuring support remains responsive, purposeful and genuinely individualised.

This package is designed to create a practical bridge between Compass and mainstream school, with mentoring, parent liaison and support for phased reintegration.
Schools can choose how to use the flexible one hour weekly in-reach session. Compass 1:1 Tuition
Our personalised 1:1 tuition package provides expert teaching in English and Maths, tailored to each learner’s individual needs and goals.
Where an additional need is identified, the learner’s trusted tutor can also deliver targeted PSHE or SEMH intervention sessions, ensuring consistent, supportive and well-rounded provision.
Sessions can be delivered online, in the student's school, home, or in a local community venue - delivery mode will be tailored to the individual student's needs upon commissioning.
We use baseline testing in reading, writing and Maths, to determine student's current progress in each subject. The student will subsequently be placed on one of three pathways.
All students will have an ILP created upon tuition placement, and we will assess progress against this plan regularly.
