Compass Learning offers a range of tailored packages for pupils who are struggling to engage in mainstream education, including KS3 and KS4 core provision, hybrid timetables, post-16 pathways and SENCO-led assessment support. We work closely with schools, families and young people to rebuild confidence, identify barriers and create practical plans that lead to stronger engagement, clearer next steps and better long-term outcomes.

All of our packages can be tailored to the individual, with clear outcome planning during admission.

Led by an experienced ex-deputy headteacher, English teacher, literacy expert and SENCO, our secondary provision is particularly well suited for  students whose engagement with school is hindered by unmet literacy needs or SEND.

Compass Core

 

A small-group KS3/KS4 programme for pupils who are struggling to access mainstream learning. We combine literacy and numeracy support, personal development and confidence-building to help pupils re-engage and prepare for a successful return to school.

- Initial baseline assessment to identify literacy barriers

- targeted support to assess and plug literacy gaps

- GCSE English & Maths delivery, by qualified teachers, for KS4 pupils

- Personal Development Curriculum 

- Weekly sport sessions, delivered by qualified coaches

- Weekly life skills sessions, including practical cooking.

- SEMH, evidence based interventions, delivered by trained specialists.

- Accredited qualifications route available for KS4 students, including Functional Skills English & Maths, and NOCN Skills for Employment, Training & Personal Development, NOCN Level 1 Award in Introduction to the Hospitality Industry, NOCN Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering. 

Compass Bridge

A flexible package combining three mornings of off-site intervention, as listed in the core package, with tailored in-school support.

This package is designed to create a practical bridge between Compass and mainstream school, with mentoring, parent liaison and support for phased reintegration.

Schools can choose how to use the flexible one hour weekly outreach session. For example, we could support the student in a lesson, attend a professionals meeting, or deliver an intervention jointly with school staff to support CPD and continuity of interventions in school.

Compass Next Steps (Post-16)

 

A post-16 programme for young people who are not yet ready for college, training or employment. Learners develop Functional Skills English & Maths, employability, independence and confidence while working towards realistic next steps.

Work experience is introduced gradually, progressing from supported work-readiness activities to regular placements with local hospitality and catering employers.

Possible qualifications include:

  • NOCN Entry Level/Level1/Level 2 Certificate in Skills for Employment, Training and Personal Development
  • NOCN Level 1 Award in Introduction to the Hospitality Industry
  • NOCN Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering. 
  • Functional Skills English & Maths

 

Compass SEND Assessment

A SENCO-led assessment and intervention package for pupils with suspected or unmet SEND.

We help schools build a clearer understanding of need, put targeted support in place and gather high-quality evidence to inform future planning and EHCP requests where appropriate. 

We will implement the identified suggested interventions, and complete a full plan, do, review cycle.

This package must sit alongside a core placement, as the student will need to be accessing the provision in order for us to adequately assess their needs.
